IAU I-HOW/COSPAR Capacity Building Workshop, UNLP, La Plata, Argentina, December 1-12 2025

I am a lecturer at the ASTRAL-X IAU I-HOW and COSPAR Capacity Building workshop, providing a unique platform for students and young researchers from Latin America to learn how to analyse X-ray data from missions and to connect with researchers from across the globe.

I will deliver lectures about analysis techniques for high-resolution X-ray spectra, including those obtained using the Xrism Resolve Microcalorimeter spectrometer, and also lead a session about scientific presentation skills.

High-resolution X-ray Spectral Analysis

This lecture covers the concepts of statistical inference, model fitting and parameter estimation, as applicable to high-resolution spectra, introduces the process of spectral model building, and highlights some recent results from the Xrism mission related to supermassive black holes and AGN.

The Basics of Scientific Presentation

This lecture covers presentation skills and tips for writing and delivering scientific talks.
